چکیده

In addition to their role in the development and maintenance of the skeleton in pigs, calcium and phosphorus are involved in many other physiological processes. In practical swine diets, calcium can be considered an inexpensive nutrient. Phosphorus, on the other hand, is the third most expensive nutrient after energy and protein (amino acids). As the utilization of phosphorus in swine diets is affected by the calcium level in the diet it is important to consider the levels of both calcium and phosphorus in swine diets.

Lowering the dietary calcium to total phosphorus ratio increases phosphorus utilization in low-phosphorus corn-soybean meal diets supplemented with microbial phytase for growing-finishing pigs.

Crossbred growing-finishing pigs (n = 120) were used to investigate the effect of three dietary Ca:total P (tP) ratios (1.5:1, 1.3:1, or 1.0:1) on P utilization in low-P corn-soybean meal diets supplemented with microbial phytase at 500 phytase units/kg. The basal grower (23 to 54 kg BW) diet contained .39% tP including .07% added inorganic P (iP), and the basal finisher (54 to 123 kg BW) diet ...

Effects of Increasing Ca:p Ratio in Diets Containing Phytase on Finishing Pig Growth Performance

A total of 144 finishing pigs (72 barrows and 72 gilts, initially 85 lb) were used to determine the effects of calcium to total phosphorus (Ca:P) ratio in diets containing phytase on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and bone ash percentage. Pigs were housed in an environmentally regulated finishing building with two pigs per pen and six pens per sex per treatment in a randomized com...

Effects of dietary protein, calcium and phosphorus levels for growing and finishing swine.

A factorial experiment in a randomized complete block design was conducted with 192 pigs to evaluate the effects of two levels of d i e t a r y ca l c ium:phospho rus (.90/.70 or .65/.50%, respectively) in an 18% protein diet for growing swine (19 to 52 kg). Animals were then continued to market weight being fed one of two levels of calcium:phosphorus ( .65/.50 or .50/.40%, respectively) each a...

Diet Modification to Reduce Fecal Excretion of Nitrogen and Phosphorus in Growing-Finishing Pigs

An experiment was conducted to determine whether brewers rice can replace all corn in diets for swine and reduce fecal excretion of Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) without compromising performance and carcass quality of growing-finishing pigs. Sixteen Yorkshire x Duroc x Hampshire crosses (BW = 77±2.5 kg) were randomly assigned to either corn/soybean meal (CSM; control) or brewers rice/soybean ...
